Every time I pass through a particular highway, the caption on a particular billboard greets me. It continues to reach out to me every day I use that route. And that caption is the title of this post: What is the size of your dream? I consider this caption as a motivation for what I have set before me. Whenever I see it, I reflect on the things I am doing to achieve my dreams; the things I have done right and the things I am yet to set in motion.
Everybody has a dream; a desire of what they want to achieve in life. Dreams are an imagination of our future self. If you can dream it, whether it is bigger than your present or unrealistic to your situation, you can achieve it. Every dream is as a result of what you have: talent, skill, people, resources and everything that is available to you. That dream won’t come to you if you don’t have what it takes to achieve it.
So let me ask, what is the size of your dream?
Skill and Talent
You have been rightly positioned with the necessary skill and talent to succeed. Your success is limited to the amount of skill you are able to acquire in life. As much as we grow older day by day, we keep adding skills. These skills coupled with our in-built talent is able to birth our dreams. Many business moguls have been able to achieve more because they put in the right skill to work in order to achieve their dream. What skill do you have? Have you thought about writing it out? What dream do you have? Have you juxtaposed your dream with your skills and found a link? To every dream, God has birthed in you the talent and the necessary skill to achieve it.
When you are a cheetah, you can’t be friends with a tiger. Cheetahs are known to be fast runners. Your association also determines the size of your dream. You can’t see beyond a mole hill if you are friends with a chicken. However when you pitch your nest with the eagle, you will see beyond the peak of the highest mountain. Your kind of friends will make or mar you. If your friends are not helping you grow, choose a different set of friends. Find people of like minds. You have heard the quote “Great minds think alike”. Choose your associations wisely. Read my post on the Power of Association.
The Content of What You See
What do you see when you walk on the street? What do you hear when people talk to you? When you watch the TV or go to the movies, what do you see? When you listen to music, what do you hear? Let me tell you that the content of what you see, hear and perceive determines the size of your dream. I remember watching the animated series, Bright Sparks when I was younger. That cartoon series was the seed of my learning video editing. Everything I see, from conceptual designs on billboards, to the way people relate determines how you will view and execute your dreams.
You also need to understand that not everything is beneficial. There are some things that will not help you in the pursuit of your dreams. Stay away from them. What you take in manifests on the outside. Watch what you eat, watch, hear and see.
Your mind is the bedrock of your achievements.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23 NIV)
“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7a NKJV)
Your mind is your biggest supporter and your archenemy before anyone else to the actualization of your dreams. If you can see it, you can do it. If you dream about it; you are the picture, you are the camera.
Envision it. Capture it. Achieve it.
